At Sunderland Toxic Waste Disposal facility #23, three young saboteurs damage and ruin equipment until plant workers catch them. They flee into the swamp and meet Swamp Thing, who assesses the situation and orders the Sunderland people to leave. He takes them to his home where Abby treats their injuries. These are “monkeywrenchers”, specifically, the same eco-activists who ran Swamp Thing for governor! In a board room, Constance Sunderland has taken the reins of the Sunderland Corporation and plans to whip it back into shape! She has a second goal: to make her father’s murderer, Swamp Thing, pay for that perceived crime! Abby takes them to meet Chester so they can phone New Orleans, while there she sees that Troy Washington is moving in with Carl and Chester. Their neighbor Lester is less than enthusiastic about this, an anger powered by bigotry. Swamp Thing wonders, idly, whether Sunderland understood what he was setting into motion when he had Alec Holland murdered. He’ll ask the next time he visits Hell! Constance Sunderland places a call to Doctor Eric Neiderman – the Needleman – about having some “bothersome growths” removed…
