Rex Tyler works on a truth serum for Bannerman chemicals. Daydreaming, he recalls how an older man handed him an hourglass when he was a child, a man he realizes now was himself, older. Then he spots Richard Jensen stealing Bannerman research. He stopped taking Miraclo but this is a special circumstance, and he takes the drug, as much for the excitement as for the ability to enforce justice. He follows Jensen for miles to a mystical conclave; a collection of cultists surround Doctor Occult, whom they are using in a ritual to summon a demon. Jensen will use the stolen serum to break down Occult’s resistance, but Rex Tyler has summoned friends! There’s a battle, and All-Star Squadron members Tor and Merlin die, while John Zatarra and Sargon are knocked out, and Rex is overpowered. They mean to summon a demon, Koth, who they hope will reverse the Third Reich’s fortunes. Having Rex Tyler call his friends was all part of the plan; they needed that mystical energy. But their terrible spell has failed; they have instead summoned The Stalker, a soulless man! The Justice Society gathers, and then come reports that Stalker is in Washington! His goal is no less than the end of all life. The Justice Society battles him, injuring him. To give himself time to heal, he empowers several dead cultists as his disciples and sends them across the world…
